Queen City Played Friendly Host to Explosive Daingerfield on
Senior Night
Daingerfield kicked
off to start the game and their defense was a brick wall.
Queen City’s offense posted a quick three and out with
sophomore quarterback Hunter Wilcher taking every snap for the
Bulldogs with senior quarterback Larry Andrews absent from the
contest. The Tigers first offensive play saw senior running
back Koko Smith scamper 34 yards to the Queen City 2 yard
line. Junior running back LaMarce Lafayette plunged in for the
score. Bulldog junior running back Sadat Banks fumbled on
Queen City’s ensuing possession and the Tigers capitalized on
a 37 yard drive with Smith’s running before junior quarterback
Tyler Boyd threw a fade to the back of the end zone for junior
wide receiver Keyarris Garrett. Tiger senior linebacker Billy
Walker intercepted a Wilcher pass on the next possession and
took it 26 yards for the score. After another Bulldog three
and out, Smith ran 29 yards for his only touchdown before
retiring from the game. A failed fake punt by the Bulldogs
after another three and out ended the first quarter with
Dangerfield leading 26-0.
With a short field to
cover, Boyd ran 21 yards, setting up senior wide receiver Joe
Lafayette’s 9-yard touchdown run on an end-around handoff.
After Queen City went three and out again, senior wide
receiver Chris Jones returned a Dakiron Davis punt 64 yards
for his first touchdown. Banks recorded a Bulldogs first down
with a 10-yard run, but the spark died quickly and Queen City
was forced to punt again. Boyd connected with senior wide
receiver KD Hooks for a 39-yard touchdown pass as the first
half expired with the Tigers leading 47-0.
The second half saw
much of the same as Boyd ran the ball effectively for a
majority of the drive’s plays and eventually a 19-yard
touchdown run. Junior Braven Griffin took over in Queen City’s
backfield and combined with Wilcher for another Bulldog first
down on the ground. Freshman fullback Bradley Richardson
recorded the Bulldogs’ third and final first down. Things were
looking up for the Bulldog offense as the third quarter ended
with them trailing 55-0.
Three consecutive
negative plays led to a 4th and 17 for Queen City
and a Wilcher pass fell incomplete to give the ball to
Daingerfield deep in Bulldog territory. Tiger senior wide
receiver Jarred Williams took over at running back while the
elder Lafayette handled the quarterbacking duties in the
fourth quarter. The pair orchestrated a 47-yard drive that
ended with the elder Lafayette scoring from 14 yards out on
the ground. Queen City punted one last time after another
three and out and Jones returned a second punt for a score,
this one from 44 yards out as time expired. Daingerfield
defeated Queen City by a final score of 69-0.
The Bulldogs season
ends with a 2-8 record, an improvement from last season. The
Bulldogs played several freshmen in the last two varsity games
and head coach Brandon Warren is excited about his team’s
future. Coach Warren’s enthusiasm is mainly due to the junior
high teams’ success on Thursday nights this season. Thanks for

Young Hughes Springs Team Shows Too Much Fire Power for Queen
City
The running game has been the forte of the Hughes Springs
Mustangs offensive attack for years and Friday night was no
exception. The fireworks began on the game’s third play
when Mustang junior running back Brent Giddens broke straight
up the middle and raced 69 yards for the score. After a failed
extra point attempt, the Bulldog offense took the field for
the first time but two quick incomplete passes and a short run
equaled an early three and out. Mustang sophomore quarterback
Davunte Hatten took to the air on the first play of the
ensuing drive, completing a 42-yard pass to an unidentified
receiver. Hatten added a 12 yard run before handing off to
Giddens for 23 yards and his second score of the evening. A
failed two point attempt saw another Bulldog three and out and
Hughes Springs’ running game went to work again. Junior
running back Shaquielle Ransom combined with Giddens and
Hatten for several Mustang first downs before sophomore
running back Cody Murphy plunged over the goal line from the 1
yard line with a successful point-after kick. On the Bulldogs
ensuing drive, senior quarterback Larry Andrews was hit hard
as he released a pass and it appeared to hit the turf, but was
ruled an interception by Mustang senior defensive back Trevor
Munn. Another Mustang drive saw another rushing touchdown by
Murphy, this time from 31 yards out. A blocked extra point
kick was the silver lining of the first quarter for the
Bulldogs as they trailed the Mustangs 25-0.
Queen City’s ensuing drive saw yet another three and out, but
instead of kicking the ball away, the Bulldogs came up 1 yard
short of the first down marker on a fake punt. Giddens busted
off a 24-yard run that led to Murphy’s third consecutive
rushing touchdown, a 9-yarder on the drive’s third play that
included a successful extra point kick. A holding flag wiped
out a quick 9-yard run by Andrews, but the Bulldogs would not
be denied on the next play as junior running back Sadat Banks
took a handoff 81 yards to the end zone on an entirely broken
run. Senior wide receiver Landon Shields hauled in the two
point conversion from Andrews. The Bulldogs seemed to be
gaining momentum as Murphy fumbled the ball away on Hughes
Springs’ following possession, but failed to capitalize as
Andrews’ fourth down pass to freshman fullback Bradley
Richardson fell incomplete. Hatten took matters into his own
hands late in the second quarter with a 36-yard run, but
another Mustang drive ended with a fumble, this one by Ransom.
Queen City dug themselves into a hole on three short plays and
senior wide receiver Dakiron Davis was forced to punt from
deep inside his own end zone and Hughes Springs took over at
the Queen City 15 with only 1:19 remaining in the first half.
The Mustangs made good use of the time however, as Giddens
picked up 13 of the yards and Hatten covered the final 2 yards
on his own touchdown scamper. A failed two-point conversion
and short Bulldog runs ended the first half with Hughes
Springs leading Queen City 38-8.
The second half began with another Bulldog three and out and
more fireworks for the Mustangs as junior running back
Nicholas McGuire took a handoff 75 yards for a touchdown to
seal the game for Hughes Springs. The extra point attempt was
good and a new face took the field for the Bulldog offense.
Freshman running back Darryl Sheppard made his varsity debut
with an excellent kickoff return that started Queen City’s
next drive in Mustang territory. An Andrews pass to Davis gave
the Bulldogs their initial first down and two Sheppard runs
added another. Andres connected with Davis again for another
first down to the Mustang 11 yard line. The drive stalled
there, however, and Queen City turned the ball over on fourth
down with an incomplete pass to the end zone. The third
quarter ended with the Mustangs leading 45-8.
The fourth quarter saw little action as both teams gave their
reserve players some game time. A variety of different running
backs milked the clock for the Mustangs and ended up adding
another score from deep in the red zone. A bad exchange
between Andrews and junior center Braven Griffin gave the ball
back the Mustangs with only seconds remaining and the reserve
players expired the clock with the final score 52-8 in Hughes
Springs’ favor.
Several young players saw legitimate action for the Bulldogs
and KPYN play-by-play announcer Jim Davenport says the
Thursday night teams look promising. The Bulldogs return home
next week for the final game of the 2009 season, and senior
night, against Daingerfield. Catch the action LIVE on

Queen City Edges Ore City in Shootout
Queen City kicked the
ball off to start the game and the Bulldog defense held Ore
City to an early three and out. Queen City’s offense got off
on the right foot, beginning with junior fullback Cody Willis’
13-yard burst on Queen City’s first play from scrimmage.
Junior running back Sadat Banks began a work horse performance
with a 10-yard gain on his first carry. Willis recorded
another first down and Banks added two more, including a
fourth down conversion to the Ore City 4 yard line. Senior
quarterback Larry Andrews recorded the barnburner’s first
score on a 4-yard scamper, but the two point conversion
attempt failed. On the first play of the ensuing drive Bulldog
junior linebacker Braven Griffin stripped Ore City senior
quarterback Brandon Rodgers to record the game’s first
turnover. After another quick first down by Banks three short
runs led to an incomplete pass on a wide receiver double pass
trick play on fourth down. Ore City took to the air for the
first time as Rodgers completed a 25-yard pass to junior
running back JJ Walker to end the first quarter with the
Bulldogs leading 6-0.
The second quarter
began with three short gains followed by an unsuccessful
fourth down attempt by Ore City’s wildcat offense. The
Bulldogs suffered the same fate after Andrews was sacked on
second down by Rebel senior linebacker Josh Taylor and an
incomplete pass on fourth down. Ore City’s offense found its
rhythm on the very next play of the ensuing drive as Walker
took a screen pass from Rodgers 49-yards for the Rebel’s first
score. The extra point gave the Rebels their first and last
lead. Penalties and stuffed runs led to a beautiful 38-yard
punt from senior receiver/running back Dakiron Davis. Queen
City did not fail to score however as Willis intercepted a
Rodgers pass and took it back 30 yards for a touchdown. Banks
ran it in for the two point conversion. The Rebels answered
quickly with a 64-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back
Jonathan Ramsey on the drive’s first play, but the extra point
kick was no good. Two dropped passes killed Queen City’s next
drive and Davis boomed another 39-yard punt. Ore City also
went three and out on their next possession, sparking the
Queen City running game once again. With not much time
remaining in the first half Lewis carried for 8, Banks rushed
for 7, and Andrews took the ball deep into the red zone with
his own 24-yard scamper. With only twenty seconds remaining in
the first half Andrews fired a laser touchdown pass to junior
receiver Trevion Hunter from 5 yards out. Willis pounded in
the two point conversion. With only 17 seconds left Ore City’s
offense gained 50 yards in three plays, but the first half
expired before the Rebels could add another score.
Intermission saw Queen City leading 22-13.
Ore City began the second half with a lucky break. A
recovered onside kick and a Bulldog facemask penalty gave the
Rebels the ball at the Queen City 21. Sophomore running back
Joey Henderson entirely took over the Rebels running game,
dashing for 12 yards and a first down on his first carry.
After three stuffed runs Rodgers carried it in for a 4-yard
touchdown on fourth and goal. The extra point kick failed
again. The Bulldog’s quarterback answered with a much more
impressive touchdown run of his own and Andrews raced into the
end zone from 56-yards out. After a failed two point
conversion Henderson carried the ball for 20 yards on the
Rebel’s first play of their next drive. Griffin and fellow
junior linebacker Charles Scales sacked Rodgers for a 9-yard
loss that led to an incomplete pass and eventually a Rebel
punt. Two false start penalties led to a three and out by
Queen City and Henderson went to work again. After good
running by Henderson, Walker hauled in a 27-yard pass to the
Queen City 2 where Rodgers kept it himself for a 2-yard
touchdown run. After another failed extra point kick, Banks’
carried for 15 yards on the first play of the Bulldog’s
ensuing drive followed by a 5-yard plow by freshman fullback
Bradley Richardson, ending the third quarter Queen City
leading 28-25.
Richardson repeated
his short run to set up four consecutive carries by Banks that
drove the Bulldogs to the Rebels 2 yard line, where Andrews
snuck it in for his second rushing touchdown of the evening.
After a failed two point attempt Henderson and Banks’ chess
match continued as the Rebel running back carried his team
into Bulldog territory. After the drive appeared to stall,
Rodgers scrambled into the end zone from 22-yards out on
fourth down. Henderson added a two point conversion to bring
Ore City within one. Banks appeared to have check mate with a
swift 10-yard first down run, but after two stuffed runs
Andrews was sacked on third down and then again on a fake
punt. Ore City had no answer however going three and out and
punting with only 3:22 remaining in the contest. Queen City’s
ensuing drive stalled quickly deep in their own territory and
Andrews was intercepted by senior defensive back Shemall
McCain. After a couple of short runs by Henderson, Rodgers was
sacked on third and long by senior linebacker Decorey King.
With all the cards on the table and only twenty seconds
remaining, junior kicker Shaun Nicholson came onto the field
to attempt a 31-yard field goal for the victory. The kick
sailed wide right and Queen City escaped with a 34-33 victory
in Ore City. The Bulldog offense finished the game with 247
rushing yards on 47 carries, a stat head coach Brandon Warren
has been trying to accomplish all season.
Queen City hits the
road again next week traveling to Hughes Springs for another
district battle. Catch the action LIVE on

Jefferson Rides Kansas State-Bound
Running Back to Victory Over Queen City
In a dogfight between two high schools with the same mascot,
Jefferson saddled up senior running back Destin Mosley and
galloped to victory over Queen City at Smith-Wall Stadium.
Mosley is headed to Kansas State University on a football
scholarship and he showed why on Friday night. Mosley had to
wait until after Queen City received the opening kickoff but
only for three plays before Queen City was forced to punt.
From there Mosley went to work, carrying the ball every play
of Jefferson’s first drive, including a 12-yard touchdown run.
Queen City senior quarterback Larry Andrews went to work on
the ensuing possession, connecting with junior wide receiver
Trevion Hunter on a 10-yard completion for Queen City’s
initial first down. Senior running back Dakiron Davis quickly
added another first down on the ground. Andrews lit the game’s
first fireworks with a 48-yard bomb to Hunter that set Queen
City up deep in Jefferson territory. Andrews scampered into
the endzone from 7 yards out, but a holding penalty wiped out
Queen City’s score. The penalty proved costly as Andrews was
intercepted by senior defensive back Devin Figures, who
returned the ball 84 yards for Jefferson’s second touchdown.
Trevion Hunter tried to spark Queen City’s offense again with
a 49-yard kickoff return, but another holding penalty pinned
Queen City deep in their own territory and they were forced to
punt after just three plays. The first quarter ended with the
Jefferson Bulldogs leading the Queen City Bulldogs 14-0.
The second quarter began well for Queen City’s defense as
junior linebacker Cody Willis recorded tackles for losses on
Jefferson’s first two plays. Queen City junior defensive end
Braven Griffin pressured Jefferson senior quarterback Clarence
Lee into an incomplete pass on third down, forcing a Jefferson
punt. Lee will play football for the University of Houston
next season. After two short runs by junior running back Trent
Garrett, Andrews was sacked on third and long and Queen City
punted from the back of their own endzone and Jefferson took
over at the Queen City 17 yard line. Two Mosley runs covered
the 17 yards and added another score for Jefferson. After
Queen City was forced into another quick three-and-out,
another punt from their own endzone proved costly as it was
blocked and Jefferson took over on the Queen City 9 yard line.
Mosley ran the 9 yards on one play to record a hat trick. Two
short runs by Garrett on Queen City’s ensuing possession was
followed by Andrews overthrowing senior fullback Caleb Hawkins
on third down, forcing yet another Queen City punt. Lee went
to the air for the first time on Jefferson’s following drive,
connecting with senior wide receiver Trent Smith for 29 yards.
Willis came alive again recording two tackles for losses on a
third tackle after a short gain. Jefferson senior kicker
Connor Carroll split the uprights with a 37-yard field goal to
end the first half with his Bulldogs leading the home team
Bulldogs 31-0.
The second half began well for Queen City as they recovered an
onside kick. Hawkins took over at quarterback for Queen City
while Andrews moved to running back. After two short Andrews
runs, a pass interference call gave Queen City a first down in
Jefferson territory. Two more short runs set up an overthrown
pass to Garrett from Andrews on third down and a fumbled snap
by Hawkins on fourth down, ending Queen City’s bid for a
score. Jefferson took over on their own 32 yard line and
Mosley carried the ball nine times for 77 yards, setting a
1-yard plunge by Lee. Queen City fumbled the ball away on the
second play of their next possession, but their defense caught
fire again, as if on cue. Three consecutive tackles for losses
was followed by an incomplete pass on fourth down, ending the
drive and the third quarter with Jefferson leading 38-0.
Two short runs by Davis were followed by a bad snap that put
Queen City in an impossible 4th and 20 situation
and they were forced to punt. Junior running back Damon Gray
took over for Mosley, who finished the night with 155 rushing
yards on 30 carries. Gray run the ball deep into Queen City
territory, but the drive stalled at the 9 yard line. Queen
City regained possession after Carroll missed a 26-yard field
goal, his first miss of the season. Garrett went to work on
the ground again, gaining 6 yards on two carries before a bomb
to Davis fell incomplete. Willis saw his first offensive
action on fourth and 4, exploding for 19 yards on his only
carry of the contest. The clock expired on a 4-yard run by
junior running back Sadat Banks with Jefferson taking the ball
game 38-0.
Queen City’s offense was brilliant on the second drive of the
game, driving deep into Jefferson territory. Head coach
Brandon Warren said after the game, “Without the holding
penalty that wiped out our touchdown, this is a different
football game.” Every iota of Queen City’s momentum was
crushed with that penalty and Jefferson capitalized on every
opportunity and lucky break they were given. Queen City
travels to Ore City on October 23 to take on the Rebels. Catch

Linden-Kildare Routes Queen City on Homecoming Night
After a bye week, Queen City opened district
play with a road game in Linden, Texas. Queen City’s defense
started out great, but could not maintain momentum as the
Tigers offense displayed its weapon. Queen City junior
linebackers Cody Willis and Larry Andrews recorded consecutive
sacks forcing the Tigers to punt on their opening possession.
Queen City’s first offensive possession saw a quick first down
from junior running back Dakiron Davis, but was forced to punt
quickly thereafter. On the ensuing drive, Linden-Kildare
senior running back Greg Gaston recorded the first points of
the evening on a 22-yard touchdown scamper with help on the
ground from sophomore running back Rashoderick Linwood. Queen
City’s ensuing drive was less impression as the Bulldog
offense went three and out. Linwood wasted no time returning
to work, busting off a 24-yard run on first down followed by a
consecutive first down run by junior quarterback Kenneth
Harrison. Harrison put his mark on the contest with a 4-yard
touchdown run on the very=2 0next play. The first quarter
ended with the Tigers leading the Bulldogs 14-0.
Queen City gave the ball right back to the
Tigers with an interception to start off the second quarter.
The Tigers wasted no time in capitalizing on the turnover as
senior wide receiver Colton Watson hauled in a 20-yard
touchdown reception from Harrison. Everything continued to go
the Tiger’s way as they recovered the ensuing squid kick. The
Tigers offense went right back to their air attack as Harrison
connected with junior wide receiver Xavious Allen on a 26-yard
completion. Harrison followed with a 7-yard touchdown run as
an encore. After both teams flailed three and out on the next
two drives, Linwood intercepted Larry Andrews for the second
time in the game. The Tigers offense turned back to their
rushing game with a combination of handoffs to Linwood and
Gaston. The drive eventually lead to another touchdown run for
Gaston, this time from 15 yards out. Watson recorded Andrew’s
third interception of the evening to end the first half with
the Tiger’s lead a commanding 33-0.
The second half began with much of the same as
the Bulldog’s opening drive ended with a quick three and out.
A holding penalty wiped out a very quick 35-yard touchdown run
by Linwood. The Tigers offense did not miss a beat, however,
as a series of Linwood runs drove them deep into the red zone.
Xavious Allen put in his first offensive work of the game with
a 4-yard touchdown run from the fullback position. After
another Queen City three and out a Linwood fumble gave the
ball right back to the Bulldog offense to end the third
quarter with the Tiger lead 39-0.
After two short runs by Davis, Andrews was
sacked on third and long, forcing another Queen City punt.
Linwood scored his second rushing touchdown on the Tiger’s
first play from scrimmage of the following drive. Queen City’s
rushing attack came alive midway through the 4th
quarter with a combination of contributors. Junior running
back Trent Garrett recorded a first down on two carries and
gained six more on his third carry. Then Willis took over at
fullback, gaining six more yards for another Queen City first
down. Davis added a third consecutive first down on the ground
before Queen City tried some trickery. On first and ten from
the Tigers 37 yard line, Davis attempted a halfback pass, but
was “sacked” for a devastating 12-yard loss. After a bad snap
on second and long, the Bulldogs faced a third and 36
situation. A third down bob by Andrews fell hopelessly to the
muddy turf and Queen City was faced with fourth down and a
little over a mile to go. A screen pass to senior wide
receiver Johnathan Yepez gained Queen City 16 yards, but that
was 20 yards short of the impossible first down marker. With
little time left, the Tigers kept the ball on the ground
before eventually taking a knee to seal the route. Final
score: Linen-Kildare 45, Queen City 0.
Queen City returns home next week to face the Jefferson
Bulldogs looking for their first district win of the season.

Queen City showed
much sign of improvement, but turnovers were the poison for
the Bulldogs against West Rusk. Queen City received the ball
to start the game and began their first drive with good field
position at their own 34. The running game got the Bulldog
offense going until a long third down, which Queen City
converted thanks to a very unlikely play call. Sophomore
running back Sadat Banks took a pitch to the right and then
pitched the ball on a reverse to senior running back/wide
receiver Dakiron Davis going left. A left hander, Davis pulled
up at the line of scrimmage at fired a bullet pass to senior
quarterback Larry Andrews, who made an amazing shoelace catch
for the Queen City first down just across the 50 yard line.
Unfortunately, Queen City could not capitalize on the
trickery, turning the ball over on downs at the Raider 20 yard
line.
West Rusk’s spread offense took over and went to work with a
series of option runs that got them all the way to the Queen
City 24 where junior quarterback Josh Medford took a
quarterback draw 24 yards for the first score of the evening.
The extra point attempt was blocked by senior cornerback
Jonathan Yepez. Queen City’s next drive saw them facing a 3rd
and short after only two plays. Junior tight end/fullback Cody
Willis was called on for short yardage duties, but he fumbled
the handoff and Raider junior linebacker Chris Savala scooped
up the ball and raced 42 yards for another West Rusk touchdown
to end the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Queen City’s running game found its
groove. Junior running back Trent Garrett ran the ball for the
Bulldogs’ first three plays, getting them a first down. Then
the short passing game came alive with senior receivers Caleb
Hawkins, Yepez and Davis each catching a pass for first downs.
The drive stalled in Raider territory, however, and Queen City
was forced to punt. Queen City defense came alive as if on cue
as West Rusk threw three consecutive incomplete passes to give
the ball right back to the Bulldogs. After two short runs by
banks, Andrews found Davis along the sideline for a 59 yard
touchdown pass to put Queen City on the board. The Raiders
went back to the ground game and busted off a couple of big
gains before Medford broke loose again for a 26 yard score.
West Rusk attempted to go for two, but the pass fell
incomplete. After a Queen City four-and-out, West Rusk took
over deep in Bulldog territory and added to their total when
senior wide out Dominique Smith hauled in a 6 yard touchdown
pass from Medford, who also ran in the two point conversion to
end the first half, 27-7.
The second half showed fewer fireworks as West Rusk marched 66
yards for another Smith touchdown catch, that time from 7
yards out. Another failed two point conversion by the Raiders
brought the tally to 33-7. After two Queen City runs by
Garrett, a Larry Andrews pass was intercepted by Smith, but
the Raiders failed to capitalize and punted the ball away.
Junior running Jammie Andrews gained 7 yards on his first
carry, but the Bulldogs could not acquire the other 3 needed
for a first down and turned the ball over again on fourth
down. The third quarter ended 33-7, and that was all she wrote
as the two teams traded punts throughout the fourth quarter
with several reserve players seeing their first action of the
evening.
Queen City showed improvement on every aspect of the game,
except special times. The Bulldogs offense and defense have
steadily improved little by little each game, but the kicking
and kick return game have remained subpar. If Queen City can
reach their potential offensively and defensively and make a
good showing on special teams, expect the Bulldogs to turn a
lot of heads during district play. Queen City has a bye week
on October 2, but returns to action on October 9 in Linden,
for their district opener against the Linden-Kildare Tigers.

Queen City showed much improvement, but not enough to overcome
the high-powered Pittsburg attack. In a very wet stadium
called “The Pitt” in Pittsburg, Texas, the Bulldogs won the
toss and elected to receive. After an off sides penalty
against the Pirates on the opening kickoff, junior running
back Trent Garrett took the ball from his own 5 yard line to
the Queen City 21. On the very first play from scrimmage,
Garrett took a handoff straight up the middle for 9 yards
before being drug down. After he hit the astroturf, Garrett
laid the ball on the ground and got up to walk back to the
huddle. A Pittsburg defender dove on the ball and got up
waiving it frantically. Garrett shrugged it off, but the
officials gave the ball to Pittsburg. That freak play took the
life from the Bulldog attack.
On Pittsburg’s second
play from scrimmage, junior quarterback and Texas Christian
University prospect Mitch Manley completed a screen pass to
senior wide receiver Andy Dube, who took the ball 52 yards to
the end zone. After another quick Queen City fumble, Manley
threw a 6 yard strike to senior wide receiver Chris Brown for
Pittsburg’s second score. The Bulldogs regained possession and
made a first down on two impressive runs by Garrett, but were
forced to punt. After the Pirates’ drive stalled, junior
kicker Saul Martinez came out to attempt a 52 yard field goal.
The kick had plenty of distance, but bounced off the left
upright. Queen City again gained one quick first down, but was
force to punt. A bad snap gave Pittsburg a short field, but
Martinez missed a second consecutive field goal, the latter
from 37 yards.
In the second quarter
Pittsburg ran the football for the first time and they ran it
well. On the second play of the period, senior running back
Ted Burns took a handoff 65 yards for his first score of the
evening. After another Bulldog fumble, Banks scampered in for
another score from 32 yards out. Queen City’s rushing attack
did not quit. Sophomore running back Sadat Banks gained 26
yards on 3 carries to start the ensuing drive. Junior running
back Jammie Andrews and Garrett also combined for a triple
threat rushing attack that eventually found the end zone on a
10 yard run by Garrett. Manley was not through for the half,
however, firing his third touchdown pass, this one to junior
wide receiver Nadell Richardson, tallying the score 34-6
heading into halftime.
The second half did
not hold as many fireworks, though Manley continued to display
his cannon of an arm, connecting to Brown once again for 32
yards on his fourth and final touchdown toss. Burns recorded a
hat trick on a 9 yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.
Queen City senior quarterback Larry Andrews found senior
fullback Caleb Hawkins one several short passes for the lone
bright spot in the Bulldogs attack. The Bulldog defense held
up well in the second half, still facing all of Pittsburg’s
starters. Pittsburg senior running back Maurice Green ended
the scoring with a 41 yard touchdown run midway through the
final period to cap off the evening. Final score Pittsburg 55
Queen City 6.
Queen City’s rushing
attack has greatly improved through their four games. The
offensive line blew a few holes wide open for running backs
like Garrett to squirt through, especially on the right side.
Queen City junior center Braven Griffin, junior right guard DJ
King, and sophomore right tackle Chevy Smith have showed much
improvement individually and as a unit. Look for Queen City’s
rushing attack to be key in district play; something Bulldogs
head coach Brandon Warren mentioned even before the season
started. Queen City hosts West Rusk Friday, September 25, for
homecoming at Smith-Wall Stadium. Festivities will begin at
7:00 PM, kickoff will be at 7:30 PM. Listen live online at

The Lions came flying
out of the gate against the Queen City Bulldogs Friday night
during dire weather conditions in New Boston, Texas, and never
looked back. Senior quarterback Darrion Wade set the Lions
offense afire with a 30 yard pass to senior wide receiver
Terence Lomax on New Boston’s first play from scrimmage. Just
two plays later, Wade scored the first points of the contest
on a 28 yard scamper. After Queen City’s offense went
three-and-out on a few Dakiron Davis runs, Wade struck again
with a 47 yard run into the red zone to set up a 4 yard
touchdown run by senior running back Terrance Rowden.
Queen City’s offense
took over again and gained one first down before punting for
the second time in as many possessions. Wade went to work
again, connecting with senior wide receiver/quarterback Janson
Carr for 48 yards to set up a touchdown run by junior running
back Sha’keem Jefferson from 33 yards out. That was only the
first quarter, folks.
On Queen City’s next
offensive possession to start the second quarter, senior
quarterback Larry Andrews was drilled as he let a pass go
downfield intended for senior running back/wide receiver
Dakiron Davis that appeared to hit the turf, but the ball was
ruled an interception by none other than Darrion Wade. On the
very next play, Rowden scored his second rushing touchdown of
the evening from 34 yards away.
Queen City’s offense
showed life from junior tight end Cody Willis who took a
handoff rather than catch a pass for 8 yards, but the Bulldogs
were unable to convert for a first down. Wade went to work
again, firing another bomb to Carr for 47 yards. Wade kept the
ball himself for a 5 yard touchdown run three plays later.
Senior wide receiver Landon Shield returned the kickoff 30
yards and into New Boston territory to spark the Bulldogs
offense, but once again the Lions defense held Queen City at
bay. Wade connected with Carr again on a 20 yard touchdown
pass just three plays later. After the ensuing kickoff, Willis
was again called for rushing duties, picking up 12 yards first
down from the Bulldogs 2 yard line. The clock expired after
the run, however, heading into halftime with the score 46-0,
New Boston.
During halftime,
Mother Nature opened the flood gates on Lion Stadium,
drenching players and fans alike. Rowden and Jefferson each
added one more score to their résumés.
From there, the rain dampened not only fans’ spirits, but the
players’ as well. A long series of three-and-outs by both
teams made the second half go by extremely fast and fans who
stayed for the entire game were heading home well before 10:00
PM. A key notice for Queen City: junior star running back
Trent Garrett missed the game with 103 degree fever. The
prayers of the fans as well as KPYN are with him and his
family. Your final score from New Boston, Texas: Lions 59,
Bulldogs 0.

The Queen City Bulldogs recorded their first victory since
2007 with a victory over the De Kalb Bears Friday night in De
Kalb, Texas. After both teams were shut out last week by
Prosper and New Boston, respectively, both bearers of orange
and black took the field seeking their first win of the
season. It was the 14 point favorite De Kalb Bears who got off
to the fast start, scoring touchdowns on their first two
possessions.
Senior running back Jermese Reid had a pair of rushing
touchdowns in the first quarter as De Kalb jumped out to an
early 14-0 lead. Queen City fought back in the second quarter
with their own score when sophomore running back Sadat Banks
took a handoff 23 yards for Queen City’s first touchdown of
the year. Later in the second, bears senior quarterback
Matthew Davis scampered in from 37 yards out to record De
Kalb’s last score of the evening. On the last play before
intermission, Queen City senior quarterback Larry Andrews
chunked an 82 yard bomb to senior wideout Jonathan Yepez to
set the score at 21-13 heading into halftime. Queen City never
looked back.
In the third quarter, Andres and Yepez really found a rhythm.
On a 3rd and goal situation from the De Kalb 8 yard line,
Andrews lobbed a pass to the back corner of the endzone that
Yepez leaped high over two De Kalb defenders to snag his
second touchdown reception of the evening. After a failed two
point conversion attempt, Queen City only trailed by 2 heading
into the fourth quarter.
Early in the fourth, Andrews connected with Yepez for the
combo’s 3rd touchdown pass of the evening, and that would seal
the deal for the Bulldogs. De Kalb switched from an offset “I”
formation in the first half to a spread formation in the
second, and it proved costly as De Kalb never came close to
scoring in the third or fourth quarters.
After recording their first victory of this 2009 campaign,
your Queen City Bulldogs take on the New Boston Lions next
week in New Boston, TX. Catch the action live on KPYN AM, FM
and online at www.kpyn.net.

The Queen City Bulldogs football team kicked off their 2009
campaign with a loss to the defending 3-AAA State Champion
Prosper Eagles. However, the game was much closer than the
35-0 score indicates. Queen City got off to a slow start
offensively with their first 5 passing attempts falling
incomplete. The Bulldogs also struggled in the running game
early, not gaining a first down until the second half.
Prosper's offense never quite found a rhythm against
the Bulldog defense, either. All but 1 of Prosper's 5
touchdowns came on plays of 35 yards or more. Prosper never
drove deep into Queen City territory. Queen City forced
Prosper to punt twice in the ball game; a feat they did not
accomplish in last year's meeting with the Eagles. Even more
impressively, the Bulldog defense stopped Prosper on both of
the Eagles' 4th down attempts. The Bulldogs failed to
capitalize on either turnover, though, turning the ball over
on downs the first time and fumbling it away the second.
Prosper senior quarterback Brian Hardy had 3 rushing
touchdowns on 7 carries for a total of 59 yards. Junior
running back Juan Williams had a balanced evening on the
ground. He made several nice rushes and was stopped abruptly
on some of his attempts as well. He did find the end zone on
Prosper's only red zone visit on a 1 yard smash up the middle.
The Prosper defense recorded a safety in the 2nd quarter as a
Dakiron Davis punt was muffed in the Bulldogs end zone.
Prosper senior wide receiver Brett Thompson had the last of
Prosper's scores on a 55 yard reverse.
Queen City's offense recorded 7 times as many total
yards as they did in last year's meeting with Prosper. Queen
City accumulated 79 yards on the ground between senior
quarterback Larry Andrews, senior utility player Dakiron
Davis, junior running backs Trent Garrett and Jammie Andrews,
sophomore running back Sadat Banks, senior fullback Caleb
Hawkins, and freshman fullback Bradley Richardson. Larry
Andrews also completed 3 of 13 pass attempts for 23 yards.
Queen City takes on De Kalb next week in De Kalb, TX at
7:30 on Friday, September 4, 2009. De Kalb lost to New Boston
41-0 tonight. Tune in next week for more Queen City football
as the Bulldogs and Bears both vie for their first win of this
2009 season.

Queen
City has last scrimmage against Pleasant Grove and now get
ready for season opener at home against Prosper
The Queen City Bulldogs
hosted the Pleasant Grove Hawks at Smith Wall Stadium last
Friday night and according to their head coach Brandon Warren
struggled early and PG’s depth resulted in the Hawks warring
down the dogs late. The good news is that the Hawks showed
improvement from one week to the next.
“We got a lot better from the first scrimmage to the second
one and if we keep getting better every week, we’re going to
be ok,” Coach Warren said. “Our offensive line really did a
good job. We have three sophomores on the offensive line and
they’re coming around pretty well. We moved the ball early
with a first down, another first dow n then a mistake that
backed us up, it’s just learning a new system and it’s taking
a while but we're getting it.”
The Bulldogs scrimmaging against the Hawks is good practice
for the Dogs first game which will be Friday at home against
Prosper who runs an offense similar to PG’s.
“Prosper runs a spread on
offense and a 4-3 defense which is exactly what PG runs,”
Warren said. “We will keep the same plan in this week that we
had last week.”
The Bulldogs are healthy
going into the opening game of the season. Braven Griffin has
a sore knee and Jacob Ogburn has an injured toe, other than
that, the Bulldogs are 100 percent.
Coach Griffin said that
Prosper has a great defense especially their front seven.
“We are going to have to
take care o f things up front and try to run the ball north
and south because they try to get you to run latterly,” Coach
Warren said.
Prosper is the defending
3- A State Champs and you can listen to the Queen City game
against them live Friday night on
www.kpyn.Net with the replay on KPYN AM-FM Friday night at
11 p.m. after the Rabbit’s game which can be heard live on
KPYN AM and FM.
Pre Season Preview by Robert Del Giorno
QUEEN CITY, -TX-The Queen City Bulldogs are getting back to
the basics in 2009 after a year of a high tech spread offense
brought in by Kenny Duck, last year’s head coach who parted
company with Queen City after one season and a 1-9 record.
Queen City has put local home town hero Brandon Warren in as
AD and head football coach and he will attempt to bring back
stability and togetherness in a city and to a team that
somehow became divided last season.
Coach Warren told KPYN that Caleb Hawkins, Cody Willis and
quarterback Jamie Andrews will be the leaders of the 2009
Bulldogs football team.
“Jammie Andrews is a guy that has come on,” Warren said. “He’s
a guy that we are going to rotate the offense around. He’s our
quarterback and we’re going to have to try to find a way to
get him the ball and he’s kind of taken to it.”
Willis plays inside linebacker and tight end and Hawkins is
the other inside linebacker and fullback.
Queen City has a new offensive coordinator, Eric Droddy from
Trinity, TX.
“If
you took every city in the state of Texas, Trinity would be
the most like Queen City,” Coach Warren said. “He was raised
there and he went to school there and he’s done an awesome job
with our kids so far.”
Queen City will run the multiple eye on offense.
“We
will get in the power eye some but its multiple eye and we
will move the fullback around but we’re going to run the
football,” Warren said.
Warren recruited Kevin Youngblood from Ashdown to run the
defensive as the Bulldogs defensive coordinator.
“I
can’t say enough about this guy. He’s there before I get there
and the last to leave and he’s a workaholic,” Warren said. “He
really relates to the kids and it’s a simple 4-4 defense and
he talks on our kids level and they get what he’s doing and
I’m really excited about it.”
The
Queen City Bulldogs scrimmaged against Paul Pewitt and Mt.
Vernon last Saturday (August 15th, 2009) and after
looking at the tapes of the game, Coach Warren was pleased
with what he saw.
“We’ve got three sophomores on the offensive line and were
really young there but they picked things up later on and
started doing well and I’m not disappointed at all,” Warren
told KPYN sports. “I pretty excited to tell you the truth. I
know we’re going to get there and we almost have our whole
package in so it’s not like they have to learn anything new
from here on out.”
The
Bulldogs next scrimmage is this Friday at 5 p.m. at Smith Wall
Stadium in Queen City against the 3-A Pleasant Grove Hawks.
The Bulldogs will open their pre-district regular season
Friday night August 28th against Prosper at Smith
Wall Stadium.
