In the NBA:
Dallas Mavericks fans can heave a huge sigh of relief. Longtime Maverick forward and crowd favorite Dirk Nowitski has agreed to terms of a 4-year, $80 million contract offer by his only NBA team. Due to the NBA's 36-and-over rule, Nowitski can't sign a deal longer than 4 years since he is currently 32. The maximum amount that Nowitski could have signed for was $96 million, but the German native took less money so that the Mavericks could use the extra cap space in pursuit of a high-profile free agent. Jermaine O'Neal, Al Jefferson, and LeBron James are among candidates for such a catch, while Chris Paul is also an option in a sign-and-trade deal.

In the NFL:
Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl nose tackle Jay Ratliff had a successful surgery to remove bone spurts from his elbow. The minor surgery allowed Ratliff to return to Cowboys mini camp already this week. The Cowboys drafted Ratliff in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL draft, and he has become one of the most dominant defensive lineman in the league. Ratliff has thrived in the Cowboys 3-4 defense and provides an excellent pass rush from the middle of the defensive line. Listen to all the Cowboys games LIVE this fall on KPYN.
